As a result of more craft brewers selling direct from their online shop, this year has seen me able to taste beers I’d otherwise be unable to buy. Like this Sunsplit New England-style IPA from Ottawa-based Dominion City Brewing Co.
Since opening in 2014, Dominion City Brewing Co. has steadily built a reputation for brewing great beer using local ingredients where possible, and their Sunsplit New England-stye IPA is no different.
Inspired by Vermont brewers, this beer has all the ingredients (no pun intended) of a great hazy IPA – tropical hops, a great mix of malt and oats, and an unfiltered finish that allows the flavour to really hit the spot.
The sweetness that hazy IPAs can have may lead to you only having one glass of this (maybe two), but at 6.5% ABV it still has a decent kick.
If you haven’t had an IPA before, or you’re put off by the bitterness of a “traditional IPA”, then Sunsplit New England-style IPA could be the perfect introduction to this type of beer.
