Lawson’s Finest Liquids was opened in 2008 by husband and wife Sean and Karen Lawson. After home brewing for 20 years they decided to start a nano-brewery and have grown into the 7 barrel brewery they are today.

They also contract out some of their brews to Two Roads Brewery in Stratford, CT.  Lawson’s is currently located in a residential area of Warren, VT and are only able to sell wholesale.

They are in the process of building a new location in Waitsfield, VT and it will have a taproom and retail store!

Lawson’s Sip of Sunshine IPA is one of their contracted beers with Two Roads Brewery. Although some craft beer circles frown on contract brews it is actually helping the craft beer world in a couple of ways:

  • It allows the smaller brewer to have the means necessary to produce greater volumes, without having to purchase the larger equipment which they may not be able to afford or have the space for.
  • For the consumer, we are able to obtain consistent, great beer that would not be available without contract brewing.

Sip of Sunshine is a lupulin-laden IPA. With an ABV of 8% it could easily fit into the double IPA category.

The IBU’s of this one was lower than expected at 65, but I suspect that the lupulin brings the hoppy flavor forward. Now lets see what the beer is really about.

When you crack the can a mellow hoppy aroma fills the area. Once poured the head holds strong and laces the glass nicely. The beer is a golden orange color that has been filtered to a sparkling clarified goodness.

The smell opens up to a slight citrus  but still mostly hops fill my nose. On second whiff I begin to pick up a mild floral aroma and a pleasant orange/grapefruit fragrance.

This IPA is nicely carbonated with a not too heavy mouth feel. The flavor is far from overly intense but definitely not under flavored.

Again I pick up a slight grapefruit taste with some orange mixed in. The hops are certainly there and the beer has a great lingering hoppiness at the end.

Overall a very pleasant beer to drink. I think everyone should take the opportunity to try this one!
