Toronto’s east end has an embarrassing number of craft breweries. During a recent stay at my brother’s place in the Beaches, I got to taste some really nice dark beers from Left Field (an upcoming review), Godspeed (their stout) and now Eastbound Brewing Company at the corner of Queen and Broadview.
Today we’re looking at their Skipping Through the Dark Porter.
Porters, along with dark ales and stouts, are some of the most popular fall and winter beers out there.
I find it odd there are still a number of beer drinkers apprehensive about trying dark ales and black lagers. They should give this one a try.
(I am, however, biased as I’m a big fan of dark ales, porters, and stouts.)
Skipping Through the Dark is a really nice malty porter,
I love the mocha, chocolate and coffee notes, perfect for the fall chill that’s coming. In terms of ABV, it’s not going to hit you over the head like some Porters and Imperial Stouts on the market.
As Eastbound’s web copy states, this beer goes down easy from late August onward when the evenings get colder. Skipping Through the Dark goes great with grilled meat, stews, of just sipping by the fire with friends, or by yourself.
It’s my hope that Eastbound keeps Skipping Through the Dark in rotation, because we are entering dark ale and porter season. Eastbound Brewery should definitely be on your itinerary if you are planning an East End Toronto brewery tour.
