Barncat Artisan Ales located in Cambridge, Ontario has quickly become my favourite local brewery. Barncat won me over with their raspberry juice (delicious raspberry IPA) and I have been hooked ever since. They are a very small brewery, operating their store for only 9 hours a week, and regularly running out of beer on tap due to popularity.
Extra juice originates from “The Juice” pale ale (which I sadly missed out on), using the same citrus notes but adding in Motueka. It pours a beautiful cloudy orange with a thick white head. The scent of the beer contains bitter notes with a strong citrus smell.
The flavour is one of the most refreshing IPA’s I have ever tried, the citrus is extremely flavourful and the hops balance it very nicely. You can easily taste the citrus and the hops, I get strong orange notes specifically. The beer is not too bitter, making it a very easy to drink. My partner who traditionally is opposed to IPA’s due to the bitterness really enjoyed this one, enough so that she ordered her own glass of it on a later date.
Extra Juice from barn cat Artisan Ales is a must try for anyone who enjoys IPA’s, or pale ales. The beer is refreshing, flavourful and one of the best balanced IPA’s I have had to date.
