My friend Morgan purchased this little beauty for me.

As a big fan of Game of Thrones, I was especially excited to try out this new brew, which I had planned on holding for the July 16th premiere of the new season of Game of Thrones.

Of course, I have no impulse control, so I couldn’t wait to try this golden ale from Brewery Ommegang.

A golden ale, Bend the Knee is brewed with pils malt and flaked oats, hopped with Bravo, Saaz, and Styrian Golding hops. I poured into a small clear glass alongside larger pewter stein to show you the coloring, and to not taint the smell for the review.

This offering from Ommegang pours a golden hue with a large, frothy white head (not visible in the glass, as my son interrupted me by waking up after I poured – but he takes priority).

The aroma and flavor do not differ much, mixing the malt and citrus, with their house yeast giving the beer prominent fruitiness.

The wildflower honey that is added during the fermentation process provides a light sweetness to this beer, and it finished dry with the firm hop bitterness.

With the honey and high ABV, this goes down almost like a glass of wine. After finishing this one – you can definitely feel it.

I’m not a huge fan of this myself, but I could see others enjoying it. I can’t think of anything more appropriate for watching an episode of Game of Thrones, so I’ll be sure to stock the fridge for our viewing party guests.
