First Impressions
Elixirs come in many forms and flavors, but at Elixr Coffee in Philadelphia, there are definitely some unique drinks worthy of the moniker!
Situated not far from Rittenhouse Square in downtown Philly, Elixr has several spots throughout the city. The location we visited was in a beautiful, old brick building, with some unique features: like a big sliding warehouse bathroom door, and some impressive wall art that you just have to see yourself.
In a place where there’s plenty of coffee to choose from, a roaster with high quality, fresh beans makes all the difference. But how does Elixr stack up compared to the competition?
But What About the Coffee?
Jackie’s Favorite Brew
Always a sucker for a classy latte, Elixr did not disappoint. I opted for a drink I’ve never heard of: their peppercorn butterscotch latte.
Using their own house-made butterscotch, there was a very unique balance between flavors. The peppercorn sprinkled on top might be “a bit much” for some coffee drinkers, but it’s certainly an experience that you probably want to try if you’re looking for an “adventurous” coffee experience that’s not really too crazy.
Joe’s Favorite Brew
As I’ve said before, any roaster worth its weight in beans offers a pour over coffee option. This open-vessel brewing method takes a bit more time, but extracts the best flavor profiles from beans that have been expertly selected and roasted.
Of course, this is exactly the drink I went for, choosing their “Ethiopian” bean. As expected, the brew here was exceptionally smooth with floral notes. Overall this was a very solid pour over experience!
